La Romana has among its attractions the architectural wonder of Altos de Chavón, which is a replica of 16th century European village. The village sits on higher grounds with a breath taking view of the Chavón river, while the magical architecture is a perfect place for wedding photography. At the Centre of the village visitors will find the famous Grecian-style amphitheatre where many international and local artists perform every year. The village is also a cultural Centre for art galleries and craft workshops, and it has an art school with programs in pottery, fashion, design, and other arts.
Tourists may also visit la Cueva de las Maravillas (the Cave of Wonders) with amazing rock formations, pictographs and engravings from the Taino Indians who inhabited the island before the colonization. Similarly, visitors may enjoy exciting excursions to Catalina Island, Saona Island, and the Eastern National Park.
