Pedro Vergés Ciman
Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Canada
Dominican writer, born in Santo Domingo. He studied philology at the University of Zaragoza, Spain. He has been a professor at the National University Pedro Henríquez Ureña and Director of the Institute of Hispanic Culture of the Dominican Republic.
A career Diplomat, has held the positions of: Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Spain from 1996 to 2000; Ambassador of the Republic to the Federal Republic of Germany from 2005 to 2009; Ambassador of the Republic to Japan from 2009 to 2013 and Permanent Representative of the Dominican Republic to the Organization of American States. From 2016 to 2018 he served as Minister of Culture of the Dominican Republic.
Member of the Dominican Academy of Language. In 1981, with his novel “Sólo cenizas hallarás (Bolero)” received in Spain the Prize Crítica de Narrativa Castellana (Spanish Narrative Criticism Award) and the International Prize Blasco Ibáñez.
