1. Completed Visa Form, handwritten or typed.
2. One picture, taken with a neutral facial expression (eyes open and clearly visible, mouth closed, no smiling), front facing, white background, size 2 x 2 inches.
3. Original Passport with a minimum validity equal to or greater than the time of duration of the requested visa.
4. Original birth certificate (SHORT FORM - including parents' name), authenticated by Foreign Affairs in Ottawa and legalized.
*If written in a language other than Spanish, it must be translated by a certified translator, authenticated by Foreign Affairs here in Ottawa and legalized by the Dominican Republic Consulate in Canada. Both the original and the translation must be legalized and/or apostilled.

*Once you receive your document authenticated by Global Affairs Canada, you may send them all via mail/post to our Embassy.
5. Documents that support the applicant’s intentions to study in a recognized educational institution in the Dominican Republic.
5.1. Newly Admitted University Students:
5.1.1. High School Diploma or its equivalent, authenticated by Foreign Affairs Ottawa and legalized.
5.1.2. Official Transcript, authenticated by Foreign Affairs Ottawa and legalized.
5.2. Religious:
5.2.1. Application letter issued by the senior representative of the church, indicating the applicant’s intentions to undertake religious/theological studies within the congregation located in the country.
5.3. Internship:
5.3.1. Copy of the agreement between the educational institution and the foreign educational institution, authenticated by Foreign Affairs Ottawa and legalized. If written in a language other than Spanish, it must also be translated by a certified translator.
5.4. Student exchange programs: Certification letter from the program the student is enrolled in and letter of acceptance from the educational institute where the student will be continuing their studies.
6. Documents that demonstrate financial support and indicate who will be covering the applicant’s expenses:
• Parents or guardian
• Scholarship or grant granted by an educational institution
*These documents must specify the amount of the financial support, scholarship, or grant, as well as the duration of either. In both cases, this document must be written on letterhead and certified by the corresponding institution, authenticated by Foreign Affairs in Ottawa and legalized. If written in a language other than Spanish, it must also be translated by a certified translator.
7. Medical Certificate stating that the applicant is fit to study and demonstrating the overall health of the applicant, indicating if he or she suffers from any contagious disease. This must be issued by the health authorities of the country in which the applicant resides at the time of application.
8. Criminal Record Certificate issued by the appropriate authorities of the country in which the person resides at the time of application. If the applicant has resided in the Dominican Republic for more than six months, this document must be issued by the General Attorney’s Office. Not required for minors.
9. In the case of minors, permission of the parents or guardian when the applicant is not the mother or the father. If the child is not to be accompanied into the country by both parents, it is required that the parent who is not in the Dominican Republic authorizes the other parent to move with the child to the Dominican Republic. This document must be authenticated by Foreign Affairs Ottawa, translated into Spanish and legalized.
10. National identity document of the country of nationality or card of residence, if you live in a second country (copies).
11. Economic solvency, can be demonstrated by one or more of these:
• Bank Letter
• Letter of work
• Property Titles
12. Letter of application addressed to the consular office by the interested party or their representative, requesting the student visa, indicating name and nationality.
Notes of Interest:
• Having completed all the requirements above does not guarantee a visa approval.
• The consular officer cannot decide whether or not to grant the student visa (e), until your application is evaluated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We strongly advise you not to purchase non-refundable airfare or to make other travel plans until you receive your visa.
• The beneficiaries of student visas have a period of 30 days to present themselves to the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) in the Dominican Republic to complete the requirements of the residency or temporary permit, in accordance with the rules of application of the General Migration Act No. 28504.
Renewal requirements:
1. Completed Visa Form, handwritten or typed.

3. Original Passport with a minimum validity equal to or greater than the time of duration of the requested visa.
4. Admission documents from the university or educational institution indicating enrollment period and level of studies.
5. Copy of the student identification card.
6. Application letter addressed to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, signed by the applicant or their representative, requesting the student visa. Please indicate name and nationality of the applicant.
7. Original entry card (expired or valid), issued by the Directorate General of Migration as set out in article 81, section (g), on the Permanence of Foreigners not residents in national territory.
8. Legible copy of any other documents issued by public or private institutions in the Dominican Republic, (example: Driver's license, Cédula, Medical insurance, Study Center card, recreation Club, etc.).
